Description

All Types of Stairs – All Materials

The range of services offered by FHS Treppen GmbH extends from the custom production of exclusive staircases according to individual customer requirements to series production for large projects.

This includes solid wood staircases in numerous wood types and designs, steel stringer and steel beam staircases (e.g. in combination with solid wood, stainless steel, and glass), cantilever staircases (our Flying Steps®), folded-plate staircases, spiral staircases, bolt staircases, and many more. We are also happy to manufacture special staircases—such as curved steel stringer stairs with railing-high stringers, round stringer and curved block wood staircases, or walkable glass staircases—in any level of complexity and size according to your specifications. More than 200 images of all kinds of stair designs are presented in the volume “FHS – The Stairbook 2”, published in 2025.

“F-Oak” (F-Eiche®): Solid Oak Stair Treads with a finger-jointed Spruce Core

Affordable, resource-saving, and solid: our “F-Oak” (F-Eiche®) stair treads, made of oak with a solid finger-jointed spruce core, offer the ideal solution for high-quality oak stair treads and panels at a reasonable price! With approx. 3.5 mm thick oak face layers on the top and bottom of the tread, as well as front and rear solid oak edging and oak end grain on the sides, “F-Oak” treads are visually indistinguishable from pure solid oak treads.

Oak is the classic wood for solid stair treads, highly sought after in both traditional and modern staircase construction. It is hard and durable, has an elegant appearance, and is suitable for many high-quality surface treatments such as brushing, staining, colored oils, or liming. However, oak is expensive, tends to crack in large formats, and has limited availability.

This is where the advantages of spruce come into play! Despite its low weight, finger-jointed spruce offers high stability, is far less prone to cracking, and is available at reasonable prices. Combining both woods results in “F-Oak”, a solid stair tread with a premium, robust surface and a lightweight, stable core. Thanks to the similar swelling and shrinking behavior of both wood types, they form an ideal composite material for wood thicknesses from 40 to 120 mm. Ideal applications include not only stair treads, but also landings, table tops, and kitchen countertops.

Cross-Laminated Timber Prefabricated Staircases: Wood Instead of Concrete!

A nearly exclusive product from FHS is the prefabricated cross-laminated timber (CLT) staircase, which—installed instead of a concrete staircase—is completely lifted into the building from above. The preassembled CLT staircase is now also available with preinstalled steel stringers and railings! Once lifted in place, the CLT staircase can be used immediately as a construction staircase, with fall protection already included when delivered with railing. Multiple floors can be stacked perfectly on top of each other. In the staircase module, the walls for the stairwell are already preassembled as well.

For finishing with stair treads (or railings made of wood, stainless steel, or glass) from FHS, no additional measurements on site are required, as CAD data is already available in the factory. Other site-installed treads such as tiles or stone can of course also be applied. The CLT staircase is suitable both for new construction and for renovation projects. Fire and sound protection requirements can be met according to the building planner’s specifications.

Exclusive Surfaces for CLT Elements

The high craftsmanship and technical expertise of our long-standing employees benefits both staircase production and CLT manufacturing. FHS can not only provide detailed planning for timber construction projects if required, but also implement custom solutions in the CLT sector. A specialty of FHS is the production of exclusive visible CLT surfaces in many premium wood types. Even factory-installed piping for water-based ceiling heating systems can be integrated beneath these exclusive surfaces. In addition, as a steel construction company certified according to EN-1090, FHS is authorized to manufacture and supply load-bearing steel components.
