The facts
In the "old" DIN 4109, balconies were not explicitly considered when it came to impact sound insulation. The "new" DIN 4109 from 01/2018 improves on this and also requires impact sound values here.

The requirements for minimum impact sound insulation
Proposals for increased sound insulation for components such as balconies are set out in DIN 4109 Part 5. A demand for balconies, e.g. due to balcony furniture and more intensive use, justifies and requires an adjustment of the minimum impact sound insulation value of 58dB. The lack of living space also contributes significantly to the fact that balconies and roof terraces are increasingly being used as living space.
The solution
Here it is possible to achieve very good impact sound insulation with the help of the impact sound insulation and structural protection mat DAMTEC sonic and DAMTEC sonic drain plus from KRAIBURG Relastec GmbH & Co. KG. This compact 3-in-1 solution for reducing impact sound, protecting the waterproofing and creating a drainage layer on external ceilings combines DIN 18531 and DIN 4109, achieving an impact sound improvement value of up to 42 dB.
Made from recycled rubber granulate, the mats provide optimum protection for areas under terraces, balconies and pergolas, reducing disturbing noise and standing water above the waterproofing. Different structures and systems are available depending on the surface covering and substructure.
