BauTour Stuttgart" audio guide

Stuttgart offers a whole range of impressive buildings that experts should take a closer look at. For this reason, DACH+HOLZ International 2024 is offering an acoustic tour of the city that has been specially designed for trade fair visitors: the "BauTour Stuttgart" audio guide.

This allows visitors to view and listen to current buildings in the field of timber construction and roof technologies in and around Stuttgart after visiting the trade fair. The "BauTour Stuttgart" audio guide consists of six episodes, each of which is dedicated to one building.

Acoustic tour with construction journalist Alexandra Busch

Construction journalist Alexandra Busch guides you through the acoustic tour with six carefully selected stops. These buildings are not only architecturally and urbanistically fascinating, but also excellently realized in terms of construction technology. Each building tells its own story, characterized by innovative timber construction and unusual roof structures.

Here you can find out about the creative concepts and technical challenges behind the respective projects, as well as the influence the buildings have on the cityscape. The following six buildings are presented in the individual episodes:

Exhibition hall 10: striking timber roof structure

Exhibition Hall 10, also known as the Paul Horn Hall, was opened in 2018 as an extension to Messe Stuttgart and offers an additional 14,600 square meters of exhibition space. Its striking timber roof structure gives the hall a characteristic profile. With 46 glulam trusses, modern technology and sustainable elements such as a green roof with solar cells, it sets new standards in the architecture of exhibition halls.

State Institute for Apiculture: timber-hybrid building

On the southern edge of the University of Hohenheim campus, surrounded by idyllic gardens, stands the State Institute of Apiculture, which will be completed in 2021. Designed by Lanz Schwager Architekten, the timber-hybrid building combines research, teaching and practice to protect honey bees. A sustainable example of architecture dedicated to biodiversity and the future of beekeeping.

Dorotheen Quartier: eye-catching roof design

The Dorotheen Quartier in the heart of Stuttgart combines living space, retail, restaurants and offices on 47,000 square meters. With its mixture of limestone, aluminum, glass and eye-catching roof design, the quarter embodies a symbiosis of tradition and modernity that enriches Stuttgart's urban landscape.

 Calwer Passage: roofscape with trees

The Calwer Passage in Stuttgart, built in the 1970s, has been shining in new splendor since 2022 thanks to a new seven-storey office building by ingenhoven associates. With over 11,000 plants along the street front and an impressive roofscape with trees, it offers an exceptional working and living environment and contributes to improving the urban microclimate.

Residential and commercial building on Ostendplatz: roof cladding made of titanium zinc shingles

Bau- und WohnungsVerein Stuttgart is revitalizing a striking residential and commercial building on Ostendplatz with extensive conversion and refurbishment measures. While the façade was preserved, the interior of the building was completely gutted and modernized. A roof covering of around 5,500 titanium zinc shingles with a diamond pattern underlines the concept.

Residential building 'MaxAcht' in the Olga Areal: glue-free solid wood building

The "MaxAcht" residential building, a project by a building association, sets new standards in urban living. With eleven flexible residential units for different living situations, it offers an integrative and intergenerational living concept. The glue-free solid wood building impresses with its sustainability and ecological construction. A CO₂-neutral balance sheet makes "MaxAcht" a pioneer in the city.

Restaurants and bars for every stop

To round off the artisanal-architectural experience, there is a selection of restaurants and bars near the respective buildings. For orientation, interested parties will find a link to a digital map on Google Maps under each episode. The map shows both the buildings and the restaurant recommendations.
